The Importance of Comic Book Storage
There are several ways you can store your valuable comic book collection. Comic book storage comes in several forms.
The key things to remember are to keep them in containers that are specially made for that purpose, to preserve the paper. Whatever you use to store paper or cardboard needs to be archive quality, that is acid-free and lignin free. Storage devices made from plastic must be PVC-free.
Additionally, make sure that your collection is stored out of direct light, in a climate controlled environment. The average shed or upstairs attic is obviously not ideal!
You have a lot of different choices as far as choosing items in which to store your comic books. Individual plastic sleeves or acid-free resealable bags are great for special comics, although very valuable specimens should be kept in plastic boxes designed for comic book storage. If you're going to seal these bags or sleeves with an adhesive, make certain that the adhesive never touches the comics themselves.
Plastic comic book boxes can be found at collectibles shops or storage and organization stores. Alternatively, you can now find Mylar comic book sleeves that have treated cardboard backing boards, which add a little structure to the container.
Now then, assuming you've stored all your most valuable books in individual containers, it's time to consider how to store the rest of your collection. You'll find that there are lots of different kinds of boxes that you can buy in comic book stores or online. They come in two different sizes. The short ones will holds about 100 books, while the longer ones can hold up to 300.
Before you even store your comic books, though, you probably want to think about how you want them organized. It's most common to organize them by comic book title, then in chronological order based on publication date. With organized comic book storage, you'll be able to find any issue you want quickly and easily, either to read or to sell.
