Unfortunate Effects of Childhood Obesity

by Candace Right

We all know that childhood obesity is not healthy. No matter where you look, you hear stories of how dangerous the epidemic is becoming. People are looking at the future of the children and are terrified. You don't have the power to solve this problem yourself. But if you have a child, stop a moment to consider his or her future.

The effects of childhood obesity are very dangerous. In fact, there are links to many different diseases from being an obese child. Heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure are just a few.

This is not to mention the other effects of childhood obesity. At school, children are often very malicious. An overweight child is an obvious target; they are often teased and made the butt of jokes.

For a child who is never accepted and always made fun of, it's a terrible way to live. They suffer every single day when no one invites them to birthday parties. No one asks them out to the school dance ("You're too fat!"). They certainly never get picked for the sports teams.

There may be hope. As more people realize the effects of childhood obesity, maybe we'll be able to work together to make a change for the better. This can start with your own child at dinner. Teach your child about the different kinds of food, telling them what is and isn't healthy. In this way, you can help him or her form good eating habits for life. You'll be putting a stop to childhood obesity. Children look to their parents as teachers and examples to follow. It's up to you to teach him or her the right eating habits. When it comes to childhood obesity, your child counts on you to provide him or her a better quality of life. You have the power to either give your child a better quality of life, or to condemn him or her to a life of sorrow and disease. Start with your child to end the childhood obesity epidemic.
