How to Determine Comic Book Value
Have you found a stash of old comics in the attic? Or, perhaps you stumbled across a comic book collection when you were browsing at a garage sale and suddenly got the idea of grabbing them and selling them for a profit. Either way, you need to determine the comic book value, regardless of where you got the comic books or whether there are five books or five hundred altogether.
You have a lot of ways to determine the value of a comic book. First of all, based on accepted guidelines, you need to know what kind of condition it's in. The rarity and desirability of a comic book is another big thing that can give you a good idea of what kind of price you can get for it.
There are two ways to determine comic book value, also called its grade. You can consult the CGC (Comics Guaranty Company) either by mail or at a comic book convention, or you can use information you find online to determine its grade. These are the grading terms you should be familiar with: Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, Fine, Very Fine, Near Mint, Mint. You can find books that guide you in determining the grade, but the information is readily available on the internet, too.
Once you have determined the grade, finding the comic book value is much easier. Visit eBay and check out the auctions for comic books, since this will give you a good idea of what they're selling for. But when you're looking at auctions, be aware that there are special things that will cause prices to vary from issue to issue. Printing errors and rarity, for example.
You can also purchase a comic book price guide. There are many different ones you can buy. Some guides will give you one price for each comic. Some give you a range of values depending on the comic's condition. Last but not least, use a good search engine to look up information about a specific issue. Join online communities and interact with other collectors.
