Coca-Cola Memorabilia: Are You Buying The Real Thing?

Everyone is familiar with the beloved Coca-Cola brand. Founded in 1886, Coca-Cola has become an American icon. Every American can identify on sight the popular white and red logo. Coca-cola promotions throughout the years are memorable. Collectors love this valuable merchandise and prize it in their collections. Coca-Cola collectibles can be used to display as a collection or even to decorate the home. The collector always keeps an eye out for any piece of memorabilia that is interesting, offbeat, rare, or fun.

One of the primary appeals of collecting Coca Cola memorabilia is that people often associate Coke ad therefore Coke collectibles with happy times in their lives. Coke's marketers often used Santa Claus or attractive women in their advertising to promote this association. The ads were so common that some people believe Coke played a large role in developing the current popular image of what Santa Claus should look like.

Aside from these pictures, Coca-Cola collectibles are available back to the 1800s but these items are from the high priced collector. After 1970 there have been many Coca Cola collectibles that have been reproduced or copied to look like the older items and sold as originals. Calendars, trays and the like have been copied to just about perfection where even an expert is sometimes tricked into believing they are the real thing.

It's not just among the high ticket pieces that one sees copies, though. There are endless numbers of copies at all levels. There are pieces which were crafted to appear antique even though similar real ones didn't ever exist. These articles are termed "fantasies." They run the gamut from buckles to knives and are frequently found on sale with other collectibles. While the majority of dealers have no intention of knowingly defrauding their clients, these articles do get sold to unwitting new collectors in the guise of actual Coca Cola collectibles.

Pepsi collectible have also been gaining popularity. This market segment is newer and not as well known, so it is best to do a little research. Make sure the dealer you are using is established and has a good history. This will prevent you from making a poor investment.

When collecting Coca Cola items you will do fine as long you are aware that reproductions and fantasy items do exist. There are many original Coke items that are not expensive and you can find them in old or new versions. This gives you a way to begin collecting the Coca Cola items that you love.
