Spruce Up Your Home With Decorative Plant Stands

by Lee Dobbins

You can use plant stands for many decorative purposes. In fact, a nicely-made pedestal plant stand is a wonderful way to display additional items when you've used up the space on your mantle or shelving.

By putting either an artificial or live plant on a nice plant stand, you enhance its beauty. Unlike live plants, silk ones will allow you to enjoy greenery without putting time into watering. To provide some added character to your artificial plant, buy a plant stand that offers good support.

Whether you're showcasing collectibles, plants or framed photographs you need to choose your stand carefully. The stand should compliment the beauty of the plant or item you put on it. There are so many options on the market in plant stands that it's now easier than ever to display your greenery in such a way that both the plants and the pedestals make a striking impression on your house guests.

You also need to think about the type of plant you will put on the stand. The plant size needs to be about equal with the size of the stand. You want to reconsider pairing a heavy, overpowering stand with a small, decorative plant. A long, leafy plant like a fern, on the other hand, would look great on a heavier, wrought iron stand.

Color is another thing to consider. The colors of the blooms should be kept in consideration when deciding on a flowering plant to display. Complimenting colors or soothing neutral tones should be used in your new plant stand.

Size is something you should think about carefully. The top of the plant stand must be large enough that your plant pot will fit on it. Your plant pot should be slightly smaller than the top of the plant stand. This will be more aesthetically pleasing as well as stable.

Floors that are solid and level are enough to keep most plant stands standing upright. If you are displaying something large and heavy, be sure to choose a stand that will support the weight well and be appropriate for your flooring type. As an example, a pedestal of light weight probably would not be the right thing if the floor has plush carpeting. A base of this type will be just fine on a hardwood floor.

When decorating your home, consider starting with a plant stand, just make sure to make it reflect your own style. In doing so, you'll have a little area that represents your creative personality.
